Project Description

Even though billions in Web3 grant capital have been distributed, many ecosystems still struggle to measure performance and prevent waste. We’ve built OpenGrants as the best publicly-available data source for Web3 grants to allow projects to learn from each other, create a more vibrant space for builders, and promote ecosystem-wide growth.

We believe the development of standards and benchmarks, and promotion of data-driven decision-making, is necessary to support the maturation and growth of Web3 grants and DAO resource allocation mechanisms. Through OpenGrants, we seek to address problems with data collection, quality, and analysis, community transparency and engagement, as well as the efficiency and interoperability of grant systems. Ultimately, OpenGrants will help promote the continuous improvement of Web3 grant programs and the evolution of the Stellar ecosystem.

We’ve worked with the Stellar ecosystem since before the inception of OpenGrants, collaborating on the underlying infrastructure and data standard, DAOIP-5. We have previously received three public goods awards from Stellar, taking the DAOIP-5 standard and transforming it into open data infrastructure featuring a gateway API, ecosystem funding dashboard, and SCF grant reporting.

Retroactive Impact

Over the past three months, OpenGrants focused on providing more direct value to the Stellar ecosystem and ensuring the continued full integration and visualization of up-to-date SCF funding data, while also expanding our coverage across the web3 grant ecosystem. This generated the following impact to the Stellar ecosystem:

  • OpenGrants participated directly in the SCF 41 governance and community voting process, contributing funding and milestone data analytics that was used by delegates during deliberation and decision making
  • OpenGrants infrastructure used to bootstrap another ecosystem project, PG Atlas. OpenGrants is providing the data on SCF projects that will serve as starting nodes for PG Atlas’s dependency graph.
  • OpenGrants continued to ensure Stellar’s continued 100% DAOIP-5 compliance rate
  • OpenGrants expanded its ecosystem funding datasets, onboarding and integrating data from both ENS and Gitcoin, enabling greater comparative analytic capabilities

Past Deliverables

I. Integrate OpenGrants into the governance process for SCF 41

Posted OpenGrants SCF 41 Intelligence Report in the SCF 41 – Community Vote Discord channel

Received positive feedback from delegates

II. Built out more robust data sets for comparative analyses

Integrated data from two prominent funding ecosystems, ENS & Gitcoin

III. Ongoing maintenance and iteration of OpenGrants infra

Integrated new funding data from SCF 40 and 41, ensuring that Stellar remained in full compliance with DAOIP-5

Updated OpenGrants in accordance with ecosystem participant feedback

  • Built real-time integration to SCF funding data and updated data pipeline to include Airtable integration (Opengrants <> Stellar Community Fund Pipeline)
  • OpenGrants roadmap to prioritize fully automated data ingestion according to feedback received from PG Atlas team

Proposed Impact

For the next three months, OpenGrants will be in maintenance mode and not developing any new integrations or features. We will ensure that OpenGrants continues to provide up-to-date Stellar funding data analytics with zero downtime. The primary impact we plan to deliver is ongoing community access to structured funding data infrastructure that eliminates data loss and fragmentation and enables downstream analysis, tooling, and research. In addition, we will support the PG Atlas team as they continue to build out their dependency graph on top of OpenGrants data.

Proposed Deliverables

  1. Ongoing hosting and maintenance of OpenGrants infra and SCF funding data
  2. Operational support for the PG Atlas team, and any other new dependencies
  3. Engagement with the Stellar community on utilizing OpenGrants data infra, if requested
